Gutter Cleaning – Getting Ready for Winter

Gutter Cleaning – Getting Ready for Winter

If you live on Long Island, you know all about clogged gutters. Clogged gutters can cause water damage to your soffits, (where the gutters are attached to your house), create an overflow to your walkways and paths, and help water work its way to your basement and house foundation. Clogged gutters are also a great place for mosquitoes to breed.

How do Gutters get clogged?

On Long Island we have a nice mix of trees; from oak to evergreens. These trees shed leaves, needles, twigs, acorns, pine cones, and buds. Either gravity, wind or rain storms help this natural debris find a home on your home’s roof and eventually into your gutters. Even roof material makes its way into your gutters and helps with clogging.

The best way to prevent any water damage or insect breeding is to regularly clean out your gutters.

Our Process

 Visits

For all the self-help tips we share here, we do not recommend you clean your own gutters. We strongly recommend you use a professional. Professionals have the best tools and experience to work from and on your house’s roof.

The best way to ensure your gutters do not become a major source of water damage, our Gutter Cleaning Team visits your home 2-4 times a year.  In the spring, summer, early fall and late fall.

During our spring visit we remove all the debris that built up over the winter. The summer visit ensures that all gutters are unclogged and there are no leaks.  We visit again in the fall when all the trees have lost all of their foliage.

We offer seasonal maintenance contracts similar to our Shrub Maintenance, Lighting Maintenance and Irrigation Maintenance visits.  We schedule you for 2-4 visits throughout the season to clean your gutters and inspect the whole system.  This type of maintenance tries to prevent the common problems of flooding and water damage associated with clogged gutters.

Winter on Long Island can give us days and days of temperatures below freezing.

Letting a clogged or broken gutter go unchecked over the winter can lead to unnecessary water damage. Removing all debris from your gutters will allow them to work properly throughout the season and over the winter.
